[Soil microorganisms in sugar beet protection from infectious atrophy]

The level of saprophytic microbiological associations, having a special place in supplying sugar beet with necessary plant assimilatives, as well as the effect of chemical disinfectants (methyl bromide - 50 g/sq m and Bazamid (granules) - 200 g/sq m) suppose to ensure optimal results in the development of sugar beet were investigated during 10 years on the degraded chernozem and marshy humus with sugar beet cultivation in 2-field crop rotation (wheat-sugar beet) where rhizomania is constantly evident. On the basis of the results obtained the following conclusions were drawn: -Under the investigated conditions, regardless of the fact that these soils have good agrochemical properties, the crop is subject to the attack by rhizomania-causing virus. -A very low level of microbiological associations (aminoheterotrophes, acidophyllic saprophytic fungi, free aerobic nitrogen fixers and nitrificators) is evident. The proteolytic and cellulolytic activity of the investigated soil is weakened by 50-70%. Aminoautotrophes and saprophytic fungi are dominant. -The investigated disinfectants have a positive effect on most microbiological associations, compared with untreated soil.
