Comparing on-farm irrigation systems on the basis of irrigation efficiency and distribution uniformity (in Iraq)
1985
Dawood, S.A.
This project aims to evaluate three farm irrigation systems including sprinkle, trickle, and furrow systems. Broadbeans were irrigated by the three systems. Field tests have indicated that irrigation efficiency of the sprinkler system was about 22% more than that of the furrow system and about 21% less than that of the trickle system. Overall efficiency of the trickle system throughout the growing season was about 28% more than that of the sprinkler system and about 45% more than that of the furrow system. Moreover, distribution uniformities of the sprinkler and furrow system were the same and about 12% less than that of the trickle system. Crop yield significantly varied among the irrigation system. Water use efficiency of the trickle system was 35. 3kg/ha-cm, and while for the sprinkler system it was 18.2 kg/ha-cm, and for the furrow system it was only 14.6 kg/ha-cm
