To give a survey of the literature connected to calcium content/deficiency and tipburn has been one of the goals for this report. Based on original work a description of the development of tipburn in chinese cabbage is given in addition. Many factors influence the calcium situation in plants and related symptoms, e.g. tipburn. Factors influencing the water status of the plant seem to be the most important. Therefore, parameters like root activity, supply of water and nutrients (salt concentration) and transpiration characteristics will affect the symptoms. The present research deals with some basic problems of the Ca-syndrome in plants using chinese cabbage as object of study. By reading chapter 2.1 one can visualize how tipburn developes from defect membranes and cell walls through degeneration of cambium, vascular bundles and spongy parenchyma and at last ends up with dried up leaf edges
