Test of different packaging materials and storage temperature in relation to viability of tobacco seeds [Philippines]

Three packaging materials and 3 storage conditions were used to determine the viability of tobacco seeds. The packaging treatments were: cheese cloth, bottles and cello-aluminum plastic (CAP). The storage treatments were: room temperature, air conditioned room and refrigerator. Seeds of Giant Coker was used as test seeds. The initial moisture content of the seeds was 8.7% with 47.75% germination. On the second germination test, it was observed that there was an increase in germination percentage of about 32.63 or 70.88 on all treatments regardless of storage and packaging materials. There were no differences noted in the germination percentages on all treatments both on packaging and storage treatments. On the fourth germination test no seed viability deterioration was noted on both packaging and storage treatments
