Some observations on the care, management and cost analysis of "balut" and egg production of commercial layer duck (itik) farms in San Pedro, Laguna [Philippines]
1981
Cruz, Z.G. | Daen, F.P. (University of the Philippines, Quezon City. Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
Comparison between the two farms in terms of percent egg production showed great difference. Farm A peaked at 62% and averaged 52% production for six months study. Farm B, however, peaked at only 45% and averaged only 36.15% for six months. The apparent low production obtained could be traced from some aspects of care and management. Though it may have been that Farm B is not maximizing profit based on its egg production curve, this is offset by its "balut" processing venture. For a month's operation, the "balutan" which processed approximately 40,658 eggs per month in the three-month study netted P6,233.37 a month, giving a net profit margin of 17.70% per month
