Plant population densities, levels of nutrition and harvest intensities on herbage and grain production in corn for livestock and poultry

Pascua, S.R. Jr. | Longboy, N.D.
Results indicated that ears harvested from 60,000 plants/ha were longer and wider compared to ears from 120,000 plants/ha. However, 120,000 and 90,000 plants/ha produced higher herbage and stover yield than the 60,000 plants/ha. There were no significant differences on grain yield among the plant densities. Highly significant differences were observed on fertilizer rate used. Plants treated with 100-50-0 kg NPK gave the longest ear length, heaviest stover, and grain yield compared to the other fertilizer rates. Fertilizer rates of 100-50-0 and 100-50-50 kg NPK/ha produced a higher herbage yield than the other treatments. Highly significant differences were observed on herbage stover and grain yield. Total harvest at maximum vegetable stage produced the heaviest herbage yield compared to the other treatment. Plants with no defoliation gave the heaviest stover and grain yield. However, harvest of bottom leaves below ear leaf at green corn stage was not significantly different to the control in terms of grain yields
