Influence of cadmium in activated sludge on ammonifier activity and rice [Oryza sativa]

The results of the study are: 1. flooded soils treated with activated sludge regardless of rate brought about increase of COD reaching the peak at two weeks after submergence and decrease. The rate of decrease was considerable during the 3rd-4th weeks while it had only a slight change after; 2. activated sludge did not affect the COD release, but the cadmium significantly influenced the COD. The highest dose of cadmium 1,000 ppm. Cd, significantly increased the content; 3. positive relationship between the NH4-N release and the activated sludge added was observed; 4. activated sludge at 1.2 percent rate was the best with respect to such growth characteristics on height, tillering, fresh and dry weight of the RD. 7 rice; 5. activated sludge at 1.2 percent dose gave the highest uptake of nitrogen and phosphorus for top and root of the rice plant; 6. increase in the content and uptake of cadmium, could be observed only in the highest dose of cadmium applied while the other rates gave similar result
