Gladiolus production as an intercrop in mango orchard
1984
Channipha Arunchaiwatthana
Gladiolus var "Norwich Canary" and "Spic and Span" was grown as an intercrop in mango plantation. Three corm-sizes (large, medium and small) were used. As for "Norwich Canary", a large corm-size produced more flower-spikes and more new corm than other treatments, while a medium corm-size tended to produce early flowers. A small corm-size produced, as expected, less and shorter flower-spike, less number of bloom per spike and less new corms production. In "Spic and Span" variety, a large corm-size germinated at a higher percentage than other treatments, and produced long flower spikes. For a medium-corm size, a number of blooms per spike produced more than other treatments. The effect of gladiolus on growth of mango was observed. Growth of mango was slightly promoted but not statistically significant difference when compared to other treatments
