Investigation of the spread of Leptospirosis in humans and domestic animals in the Syrian Arab Republic

Leptospirosis of domestic animals was found in 7 regions, i.e. 7 localities of Syria. It was found totally 15.9 % positive reactors. Leptospirosis was mostly spread in the area of Damascus. The greatest percentage of contagious animals was in the Vidjo locality. The most frequent contagion was at cattle (33.89 %), afterwards at goats (11.89%) and at sheep (2.66 %). There were not found antibodies for 4 leptospira serotypes (icterohaemorrhagiae, mitis fomona and sejroe) in titer 1:100 and higher, in any of the investigated serums. The most represented serotypes were: hardjo (10.20 %), autumnalis (4.33 %), bellum (1.6%) and poi (1.59 %).
