An experiment was estabilished in 1979, 1980 and 1981 with increased quantities of NPK fertilizer, with 4 spring barley varieties: Zenit, Kraguj, NS 294 and NS 135, in the mountainous region of Kosovo, at 1,200 m above sea level. The fertilization variants were as follows: 1)control (0), 2)N60P48K36, 3)N90P72K54, 4)N120P96K72. Kraguj variety gave the highest yield of grain of 3,000 kg/ha with N120P96K72 variant, and on the average for all fertilization variants 2,130 kg/ha. The lowest average yield was achieved with NS 135 variety, 1,580 kg/ha on the average for all variants. Increased quantities of NPK fertilizer influenced notably the increase of yield. Increased quantities of NPK fertilizer influenced notably the morphological components of the yield too. In the variants with the largest fertilizer quantities the number of plants per sq m, height, the lenght of the ear, the number of grains and the mass of grains in an ear increased. The applied fertilizer quantities did not expert influence on the hectolitre weight. Having in mind that the investigation was performed upon the soil with unfavourable physical and chemical properties, very good results were achieved.
