[Production of main field farming crops in the associated labour in agriculture in Slavonia and Baranja [Yugoslavia]]

The results of the production of main field farming crops (maize, sugar beet and wheat), occupying about 80% of the area of the associated labour in agriculture in Slavonia and Baranja (Yugoslavia) are analysed. The data issued by the Chamber of Economy of Slavonia and Baranja were used. The analysis refers to the period 1971-1980. The average harvested area in that period was 144,009 ha per annuum, while in the sub-periods it occupied: 1971-1975 145 ha and 1976-1980 142,454 ha. The annual decrease of harvested areas was 0.83%. The reduction of harvested areas was influenced mostly by the decrease of the harvested commercial maize areas, at the rate of 3.16%, while the harvested wheat areas increased by 0.45% and those of sugar beet by 1,34% per annuum. The average yield of main field farming crops per unit of area expressed in grain units was 6.208 t/ha, while in the sub-period 1971-1975 it was 5.895 t/ha and in 1976-1980 6.511 t/ha. In the whole analysed period the yield of main field farming crops per unit of area increased by 100 kg/ha, i.e. 1.67% per annum. Commercial maize had the the highest rate of increase of the yield per unit of area, 3.19, while wheat had 0.54 and sugar 0.96. The average yield per unit of area by the end, relative to the beginning of the investigated period, was higher in commercial maize by 32.66%, in sugar beet by 8.97% and in wheat by 4.96%. The average production in the whole period was 894.000 t per annum.
