Fecundity of cat fish [in Bangladesh], Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch)

For the study of fecundity, 20 females of Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch) were collected. The maximum fecundity was recorded as 21,992 eggs and the minimum as 5,683 eggs. The mathematical relationship of fecundity-body length, fecundity-body weight, fecundity-standard length and fecundity ovary weight was found to be linear. The variations in the fecundity were better explained in terms of ovary weight than in terms of total length, standard length or body weight.
