Growth of some rice genotypes at different nutrient and moisture stress [in Bangladesh]
1986
Alamgir, A.N.M. (Chittagong Univ. (Bangladesh). Dept. of Botany)
Growth and physiological activities of some rice genotypes were investigated. Root growth at seedling stage was higher in the genotypes IR8, IRATOM-38 and Mutant 1-2; but at later growth stages dry weight of root was higher in IRATOM-24 and BR3 than in others. Sodium chloride treatment at high concentration had minimum retardation effect on germination and root growth of IR8 and IRATOM-38. The salt treatment increased tiller number in IRATOM-24 and Mutant 1-2. The inhibitory effect of moisture stress on plant growth was found to be low in IRATOM-24 and Mutant 1-1. At high dose of fertilizer, growth activities increased in all the genotypes. The rate of transpiration and absorption of K+ from the nutrient solution were maximum in Mutant 1-2, whereas stress recovery potentials for water and K+ absorption were better in some other genotypes.
