Interrelationship among selected quantitative characters with seed yield in blackgram [in Bangladesh]

In a study with 186 local blackgram (Vigna mungo (Linn.)) Hepper materials on the variability of yield and yield contributing characters, it was observed that yield/plant, number of pods/plant, number of primary branches/plant and plant height showed maximum variability. Minimum variability was observed for number of seeds/pod. Number of seeds/pod and pod length showed a strong and positive association with yield/plant. The results indicated that higher yield in blackgram can be obtained through selection for increased number of pods/plant with increased pod and higher seed number/pod.
