One of the principal problems to differentiate Solea vulgaris Quensel, 1806, from S. senegalensis Kaup, 1858, is the lack of clear taxonomic characters specially for young individuals. On the present paper a morphologic and morphometric study has been made in order to obtain new taxonomic characters with systematic value. So it demonstrates that morphological differences exist not only between the two species but also between the right and the left otoliths of the same species. A biometric analysis has been made and it is shown that the otolith relative growth cannot be used as a valid taxonomic character, however the otolith of S. vulgaris is longer wider and heavier than S. senegalensis
