The extraction of toasted guar-meal with 80% aqueous ethanol resulted in 15% loss of dry matter. The content of crude and true protein, crude fibre and gum increased and that of nitrogen-free extract, available carbohydrate and tannin decreased owing to ethanol extraction. The trypsin inhibitor activity of toasted ethanol-extracted meals was 274 and 243 units/g respectively. The growth rate, feed efficiency, digestibility of carbohydrates and ether extract and the nitrogen retention were lowered because of feeding toasted guar meal. The ethanol-extracted meal was no way better than the toasted meal with respect to its nutritive value for broiler chicks
