Changsongbyeo was developed from a cross between Milyang 29/Milyang 30/HR 1671-172-3/IR 2797-105-2-2-3 at the Honam Crops Experiment Station, Rural Development Administration in 1985. Changsongbyeo was late maturing, medium in plant height and resistance to lodging. It was resistant to stripe virus, dwarf virus and K1 race of bacterial blight, but it has moderate resistance to blast. Changsongbyeo was also resistant to biotype 1, 2 and 3 of brown planthopper, and moderate resistance to small brown planthopper and white backed planthopper. The yield potential of Changsongbyeo was higher than that Samgangbyeo and Seogwangbyeo under normal fertilizer level in the single cropping area of the south-western plain areas in Korea
