Population changes of brown planthopper (BPH) and plant hopperburning of rice cultivars by the infestation of BPH biotypes 1, 2 and 3 in pots, seed boxes and field conditions were tested. In pot test, Milyang 23 without any resistant gene to BPH and Milyang 63 with bph 2 resistant gene were dead at 27.7 and 50.5 days after infestation (DAI), respectively, while there was no hopperburn in Cheongcheongbyeo with Bph 1 gene and Gayabyeo resistant to BPH biotypes 1, 2 and 3. Under the seed box and field conditions, Milyang 23 was dead at 42 and 60 DAI and Milyang 63 was dead at 61 and 64 DAI, respectively, while Cheongcheongbyeo and Gayabyeo were alive until harvest though they showed high BPH populations at 70 DAI
