Six virus diseases of insects, four nuclear polyhedrocis (NPV) and two granulosis viruses (GV) were found in the Philippines. The NPV viruses infected grass webworm (Herpertogramma licarpalis), armyworm (Mythimna separata), cutworm (Spodoptera litura) and maize semi-looper (Chrysodeixis chalcites) while the GV infected rice brown semi-looper (Mocis frugalis) and rice leaffolder (Cnaphalocrosis medinalis). Nuclear polyhedra showed differences in shape and size by electron microscopy. They were multi-embedded with virions while GV have a single virion in each capsule. Pathogenicity tests showed that NPV was highly virulent to S. litura (Fab.). Dosages above 3.2 x 10 to the seventh power inclusion bodies/ml produced over 90% larval mortality. GV of M. frugalis also showed high virulence to third instar larvae of rice brown semi-looper
