The effect of long term cropping pattern on the productivity of selected farms in Batangas [Philippines]
1985
Muhammad Tapil Islam
There was very little variations in soil properties analyzed over the one year period. Soil depth had significant influence on soil productivity. Soil analysis showed that the top soil had lower pH, higher nutrient contents and more favorable cation exchange capacity and bulk density than the subsoil. These differences in nutrient contents were reflected through significantly higher grain yield and dry matter yield of corn grown to potted soil samples. Significantly more number of seeds per cob was also found on the top soil than in the subsoil. Among all the pattern, coconut + perennial crop patterns was found to favor best the agronomic characters of corn grown in potted soil samples
