Effect of low temperature on the rice (Oryza sativa L.) root system at seedling stage
1985
Dai, Q.
The study showed that chlorophyll content of leaf is the most sensitive parameter under chilling stress. Plant height and number of root per plant could be used as parameter for selecting cold-tolerant variety. There is a positive relationship between root activity and dry matter production. Root activity in cold-tolerant variety is higher than that in cold-susceptible variety suggesting it could be used as one of the criteria for selecting cold-tolerant rice variety. Low temperature stresses diminish root activity. The activity of peroxidase is related to the root activity under chilling stress so that peroxidase activity could be used as another parameter for selecting cold-tolerant rice varieties. Soluble protein content in rice root was increased after chilling shock. Severe chilling stress affects replication and transcription processes. ABA, IAA, Ki and DCHB could enhance root activity of rice seedling under chilling stress
