Symbiotic performance of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Rhizobium association under partial shade condition [Philipines]
1985
Fernandez, E.R.
Partial shade significantly reduced nitrogen fixation (C2H2) by 35%, total root nodule number by 28% and nodule dry weight by 15%. Leaf area and specific leaf weight were reduced by 12.5 and 17.73%, respectively. Forty two percent reduction in seed yield was obtained under partial shade due to poor partitioning of assimilates to the reproductive structure. Inoculation with either Rhizobium strain CB 756 or P3 and fertilizer nitrogen application had no significant influence on nitrogenase activity, nitrogen uptake, nitrogen content and harvest index. However, inoculation with strain CB 756 increased nodule number and nodule dryweight. The varieties tested (UPL Pn4, UPL Pn2 and BPI P9) did not differ significantly due to influence of nitrogenase activity and total nitrogen content. UPL Pn4, however produced the highest primary nodule number and primary and total nodule dry weight and seed yield under both open and partial shade condition
