Influence of loading of muscle on the muscle glicogen content and the glucose and triiodothyronine concentrations in blood of the adult White Leghorn cockerels

One wing of 35 or 90 weeks old cockerels was ballasted with 180 g load for 1 - 56 days. Over 56 days the weight of arterior latissimus dorsi (ALD) muscle increased by 206% in 90 weeks old cockarels and by 282% in younger ones. The mean glycogen content in ALD muscle of experimental birds increased by 203%. No changes of weight and glycogen content in posterior latissimus dorsi muscle of experimental cockerels were found. The mean glucose and T3 levels in the blood did not change in the course of the experiment
