Pharmacological stimulation of uterine involution in an early puerperium to improve the fertility in cows [methylergometrin, hypophysin]

The course of puerperium was much better in cows given extract from the posterior part of the pituitary gland (hypophysin) or ergot alkaloid - methylergometrin on the 4th day after parturition. Both stimulants accelerated the involution of the uterus. This shortened the interval between following pregnancies and reduced bacterial colonization of the endometrium and, in consequence, the incidence of endometritis. The stimulation with the hypophysin must be preceeded by oestrogenic sensitization of the uterus
