Resistance of some soybean lines to southern green stink bug, Nezara viridula L.
1985
Somporn Chaiprasert
Varietal resistance study on 7 soybean lines to Southern green stink bug (Nezara viridula L.) indicated that soybean lines G 3473, G8506 and G 3818 were moderately resistant in the field test at Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saeng Campus, Nakornphatom. G 8506 matured earliest. The 2nd instar nymph reared on young fresh pod diets of G 3473 and G 3818 had the longest developmental period. When the 5th instar nymph were reared with pods of different soybean lines, number of punctures revealed that soybean lines G 3473, G 8506 and G 3818 were the least infested. The number of trichomes of pod on G 3473 and G 3818 were denser than the other lines compared. It was therefore recommended that soybean lines G 3473 and G 3818 must be used for varietal resistance improvement in soybean and integrated with the other control method for future soybean insect pest management
