Analysis of net primary production of Rhizophora apiculata, age 1-15 years at Yamu district, Amphoe Yaring, Pattani province

Study of net primary production, biomass increment, stem volume increment, and efficiency of leaf to produce dry matter of the 1-15 year old stand of unthinned Rhizophora apiculata plantations was conducted during January to March, 1983 at Yaring plantation, Yamu district, Amphoc Yaring, Pattani province. The sample plot of 20 x 20 m2 was established in each stand. The stands were planted in 1968 to 1982, not planted in 1974. Stem diameter at 2 centimeter above prop root collar (Do), diameter at breast height (D) and total height (H) of all trees were measured. Five sample trees of various sizes representing each diameter class in each stand were felled. Fresh weight of any part of the tree, stem, branch, prop root and leaf were separately weighed. Stem, branch, prop root and leaf sub-samples were oven-dried at 105C for a week in order to convert fresh weights to oven-dry weights. Leaf area and weight of leaf samples were measured and weighed for estimation of leaf area per tree and leaf area index. The relationships between diameters at various parts of stem of the sample trees and biomass of stem, branch, prop root and leaf were calculated by using the allometric relation in different model, simple linear regression in the form of double log model and semi log model, for the estimation of the above-ground biomass or standing crop of Rhizophora apiculata in each stand, age 1-15 years. Stem volume of the standing trees, age 1-15 years, were estimated. Net primary production, stem volume increment and efficiency of leaf to produce dry matter were also calculated
