Hematological changes in dairy cows infected with bovine leukemia virus
1985
Tippawan Singtriphop
Immunodiffusion test was used to detect bovine leukemia in dairy cows from two different farms. It was found that 140 dairy cows from a total of 718 were infected with this virus. However, only one of the infected dairy cows showed positive clinical symptoms. The rest had subclinical bovine leukemia which was detected by the increasing level of antibody in the serum. The number of lymphocytes was significantly high (P 0.05), but the red blood cells and other hematological values were low. Although the electrolyte concentration, i.e. Na+, K+, Ca+2, in the plasma had not changed, total protein in these infected dairy cows increased significantly (P 0.01)
