Jamaica's livestock feed industry and the potential for utilising more ingredients of local origin in the system

Feed manufacturers supplement imported ingredients corn, soya and wheat middlings with locally produced materials molasses, citrus pulp, coconut meal, wet brewers grain, abbatoir waste and poultry offal, and sorghum. Other agro-industries whose byproducts are potential ingredients are: cocoa and coffee processing, sugar industry, pineapple industry, banana industry, fish processing, rice milling, cassava processing and peanut industry. The constraints to utilizing local ingredients, and the need to develop relevant technology for harvesting, drying, grinding and mixing and transportation are discussed
