State of food processing in Belize
1983
Quetzal, P. (West Indies Univ., St. Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago))
Food processing has not developed beyond primary processing of raw materials. The four largest food processing activities in terms of value are sugar products (brown and white sugar and molasses), citrus products (grapefruit and orange concentrate, citrus oil, essence and squashes), fish and wheat flour. The first 3 are largely for export while the latter is for domestic consumption. Except for citrus products and fish the values of export food commodities have declined since 1982. Other processed products are milled rice, pork and beef carcasses and honey, mainly for domestic consumption
