Alexander, V.T. | Kastelein, P. (Ministry of Agriculture, Paramaribo (Suriname). Palm Research Center)
Hartrot disease has been found to be associated with presence of the flagellate Phytomonas in the phloem of the diseased palm. In field experiments, Endrin (20 %) at a rate of 80 cc in 5 to 10 litres applied to the soil every 2 months was found to significantly prevent spread of the disease. Furadan, Sevin and Chestnut compound were not effective. Weed removal also gave significant (P = 0.01) control of the disease. Cost and risk involved may be saved by a combination of both methods
