An integrated approach to small farmers' development in the OECS countries - the CARDATS experience

The objectives of the Caribbean Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory and Training Service (CARDATS) are discussed. The project offers a multi-disciplinary package of services such as assistance in farm planning, provision of inputs, production technology and marketing, to groups of small farmers in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The programme's achievements in farmer training, credit, marketing, production of economically attractive crops and providing equipment and machinery are described with reference to the Black Bay Project in St. Lucia
