A UWI postgraduate training programme in the United Nations University (UNU) World Hunger Programme in the area of the "Interface between food availability, food conservation and human nitrition" is outlined and its essentially interdisciplinary and holistic approach to food and nutrition studies described. Participation of a network of national, developing and developed country institutions in studies on food and nutrition in the UNU Programme is also compared with the International Institute approach in the CGIAR System
