Yugoslav foreign trade of agricultural and food products
1986
Ivanovic, S. (Institut za ekonomiku poljoprivrede, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
Analysis of the actual value of Yugoslav agricultural products export over the period 1973-1984 have shown the increase of export by the end of the period. Regarding maize, SFRY has not been able to make use of a mostly constant increase of world demand, because of insufficient production. Export surpluses have varied by years. One mainly constant export item was seed maize. Tobacco export was mostly stable throughout the examined period and was on the level of about 20,000 T. Export of fresh fruit had extremely wide oscillations by years and was not of a larger importance in the total agricultural export value. In terms of food products, a moderate increase of juice and frozen fruit export up to 50,000 t per annum seems to be a realistic one. Wine dominates in the beverages export structure, but the fact that ordinary, low-quality wine and wine for further processing dominate is rather bad. In the world meat market Yugoslavia is present mainly through baby beef and tinned meat, i.e. meat products.
