Combining ability in greengram

An analysis of the diallel crosses among 5 varieties of greengram [Vigna radiata (Linn.) Wilczek] showed the existence of both additive and non-additive gene action for days to flowering and maturity, plant height, nodes/plant, clusters/plant, pods/plant, pod length, seeds/pod, seed yield/plant, 100-seed weight and protein content. Additive gene was predominant in the expression of all the characters except protein. 'Philippines' was a good combiner for 10 out of 12 characters. For early flowering, maturity and seeds/pod, 'Co 2' was a good combiner. 'ML 33' was a good combiner for protein content
