Studies were conducted to investigate the effects of feeding high tannin (colored) sorghum diets after being treated with boiling water or alkaline soaking or with methionine supplementation. Extraction of the tannins by boiling water or by soaking in NaOH or NaHCO3 resulted in significantly lower tannin content (analyzed by vanillin method) and better chick growth and feed conversion as compared with untreated colored sorghum grain diet with methionine resulted in a significant improvement in chick performance.
