1988
Shahjahan, M. | Quddus, A. | Ahmed, M. | Rahman, H.
An alternate cropping pattern Boro rice (MV)-T.Aman rice (MV)-Mustard was tested against the predominent farmers, pattern Boro rice (MV)-T.Aman rice (MV)-Fallow under irrigated condition at the FSR Site, Narhatta, Bogra, Bangladesh during 1986-87. T.Aus (MV) was found uneconomic as compared to the corresponing farmers crop Boro rice (MV) which made the farmers' alternate pattern (FA) uneconomic inspite of profitable introducion of and additional crop (Mustard) in between two rice crops. After modification alternate pattern i.e. Boro rice (MV)-T.Aman rice (MV)-Mustard has become much profitable as compared to the farmers' pattern (F). The marginal benifit-cost ratio of the alternate pattern was 0.66 in 1985-86 which has been increased to 2.06 after replacing the T.aus rice by Boro rice in the FA in 1986-87 though the yield of Mustard in 1986-87 (646 kg/ha) was lower than the previous two years (above 1.1 ton/ha). The FA has created a good impact among the farmers and a good number of farmers at the site area have started growing mustard in between Boro and T. aman rice.
