An attempt was made to investigate the bacteriological flora in the alimentary canal of Clarias batrachus and Heteropneustes fossilis. Fishes were collected from Dhanmondi lake of Bangladesh on monthly basis. The content of of alimentary canal was crushed aseptically and spread over the different media plates and incubated over night at 37 degree C. Aeromonas spp., Vibrio spp.,Klebsiella spp., Plesiomonas spp., Escherichia coli, Enterobactor, Citrobactor and Proteus spp. were isolated from the alimentary canal of both fishes. Few strains of Aeromonas spp. and F. coli were found to be haemolytic. Some of these bacteria are responsible for producing disease in fish as well as in human being. The alimentary canal of C. batrachus and H. fossilis may act as reservoir of human as well as fish pathogen.
