Studies on the planting density of tea
1987
Lai Mingzhi (Fujian Agricultural Coll., Fuzhou (China))
Experiments on 4 planting densities of 2666 bushes/mu, 5332, 7998 and 2138 were conducted under the same condition of fertilizing. Results of the first 10 years showed that there was a significantly positive correlation (r=0.991) between the density and the yield when the density is lower than 8000 bushes/mu, and a negative when the density higher than 8000 bushes/mu. The higher the density was, the worse the growth of the bush was, the less the sunlight penetrated the leaf layer, the higher the self-thinning rate of the colony was, and the greater the investment in seedlings was. Therefore, densities of 5000-8000 bushes/mu were recommended for large-area planting.
