The effect of spacing and age of transplant on the yield of eggplant, Solanum melongena (Black-beauty) on the Accra Plains [Ghana]
1979
Ocloo, G.
The effect of spacing and age of transplant of egg plant (black beauty, aubergine variety) on yield is reported. Three-week old and five week old transplants in combination with 1 m x 1 m, 1 m x 0.75 m and 1 m x 0.50 m spacing were used. Younger transplants in combination with closer spacing of 1 m x 0.50 m gave the highest average yield of 9.45 t/ha whereas older transplants with wider spacing gave the lowest average yield of 5.91 t/ha. Spacing had no effect on floral initiation but the 3-week old transplants flowered significantly earlier. Mean fruit number per plot showed an increase towards the highest density populated plots
