The effects of ethrel (2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid) on the flowering and fruiting of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)
1978
Amoabin, S.
A growth regulator, ethrel (2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid) was applied on cucumber as a foliar spray (at 3-4 and 5-6 true-leaf stages) and coupled with or without pruning, to evaluate its effect on flowering and fruiting. The number of fruits per plant increased but the treatment had no effect on fruit weight. The dry matter content of fruit and internode length were reduced by ethrel, and the higher concentration of 400 ppm resulted in severe stunting of the plants. As many as 14 successive pistillate nodes were observed in the treated plants pruned to single stem
