The effect of grazing frequency on the performance of some tropical grasses
1982
Larbi, A.
The effect of grazing on the performance of eight tropical grasses was evaluated for 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, 8-, and 10 weeks. The species of grasses used are Cynodon, Cenchrus, Digitaria, Panicum maximum and Paspalum plicatulum. Frequent grazing reduced dry matter and green forage yields. Dry matter content, sward height, root weight and crude fibre increased whilst total ash, phosphorus, crude protein and in vitro dry matter digestibility were inversely related to increasing grazing interval. Changes in calcium and calcium/phosphorus ratio were erratic. Relative palatability decreased with increasing grazing interval
