5 different studies, conducted in an effort to develop an Integrated Pest Management Programme for the rice pest, Oebalus peocilus, are described. Characterization studies revealed the existence of another species Oypsilonoides. A biological study found no major differences between the recorded and observed life cycles. No significant difference was found among treatments in an economic study; a wider range is recommended for population treatments. Evaluation of 18 lines found no line showed strong resistance and in pesticide evaluations in the laboratory, a new synthetic pyrethroid, Karate, showed promise
