Studies on bag storage of paddy in Guyana
1969
Rai, B.K. | Croal, K.
The 3 types of bags used were jute bag, 400-guage plastic bag and 600-guage plastic bag. The plastic bags were kept in jute bags for mechanical strength and sealed after filling. At different intervals, samples of paddy were drawn and analyzed as follows: germination percentage, moisture content of paddy, milling characteristics and dry weight. Observations showed that if seed paddy is required to be stored for more than 4 to 5 months under the humid coastland conditions in Guyana, the paddy should be dried to about 11-12 % moisture content and then stored in plastic bags of 400-600 guage. With respect to dry weight, paddy stored in 600-guage plastic weighed more irrespective of the moisture content during storage
