Effect of fritted trace elements on the yield, oil and protein contents of peanuts, Arachis hypogea L. - var AK 62, on Ebini sandy loam, Guyana

Results for 2 experiments on yield done during the short wet season of 1968-1969 (Nov-Jan) and the long wet season of 1969 (May-Aug) are presented. Yield was not affected in experiment 1 but there was a significant response in experiment 2, probably due to greater rainfall and/or a build-up of active rhizobia in the soil. The trace elements had no effect on oil content but because of their positive effect on yield of pods, oil yield was increased with application of up to 44 kg/ha. Percentage of protein was not affected. It is concluded that 44 kg/ha of FTE 503 or of a similar formulation is about optimum for peanuts, Var AK 62 on the sandy loam. Effects of the trace elements will be seen only when there are no other limiting factors. Protein and oil contents are unaffected by trace elements
