Experiment on vegetative propagation of cocoa by cuttings has been carried out at the Ciomas Experimental Garden, Bogor, from December to March 1984. The result showed that either top soil placed above the top soil (1 : 2) in polyethylene bags, as rooting media, did not affect the survival of the cuttings, however, partial leaf area removal combined with plant growth regulators have positive effects. Leaf area removal of the distal halves, combined with dipping in 4000 ppm IBA gave the highest number of survival of the cuttings. These treatments also significantly affected the length and weight of shoots, and the length, number and weight of roots of the survived cuttings.
