Estimation of heterosis in crosses involving brown planthopper resistant rice accessions
1987
Paramasivan, K.S. (Tamil Nadu Agricultural Univ., Coimbatore (India). School of Genetics)
3 donor parents (Manoharsali, Utrirajappan and KAU 10667) and 2 high yielding susceptible parents (Vaigai (C037) and ADT36) were utilized for this study. Heterosis, heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis were computed for plant height, number of productive tillers, length of panicle, number of spikelets per panicle, 100-grain weight and grain yield per plant. 2 cross combinations ADT 36 x Utrirajappan and ADT 36 x KAU 10667 expressed heterotic effects for number of productive tillers, 100-grain weight and grain yield per plant. The heterotic effects found in 6 characters might be due to additive genetic effects and the negative heterosis might be due to non-additive genetic effects
