The effect of split application of nitrogen and plant density on yield and yield attributes of a recently introduced rice cultivar R 24 in Konkan region of Maharashtra was studied. Number of panicles per unit area, grain and straw yield per ha were significantly high when nitrogen was applied in 4 splits as 50% at 8 days after transplanting, 30% at tillering and 10% each at primordial initiation and at flowering stages of the crop. Dry matter, number of panicles per unit area and panicle weight were significantly high at closer spacing. The grain and straw yield increased significantly with every increase in the level of plant density
