The scaling test for hulling and milling recoveries showed absence of epistatic interactions, thus showing adequacy of additive dominance model in most of the crosses studied. In case of head rice recovery, inadequacy of seales was observed with 3 [T(N)1/ Hansraj, Govind/Thapachini and T(N)1/Thapachini] out of 6 crosses studied. The characters, water uptake, kernel elongation, volume expansion and protein content showed the presence of epistasis in all the crosses when cooked at 82 deg C. The genetic parameters, mid-parental value (m), additive effect (d) and dominance effect (h) and interaction effects, additive x additive (i), additive dominance (j) and dominance x dominance (l) calculated by 6 parameter models revealed that the parameters m and d were important for hulling milling recovery and kernel elongation characters while m, d and h were important for head rice recovery. The parameters m, d, h, i and l were important, while l was important for water uptake, volume expansion and protein content, while j was important only for volume expansion
