Shrivelling of date fruits is a physiological disorder caused by loss of fruits moisture. It was found that hand picking and/or touching the fruits especially during mid day is one of the major factors relevant to this phenomenan. Shrivelling was not observed on untouched or morning touched fruits, while it was 12% and 22% in cases of touched or touched and picked during mid day respectively. As a result of mechanical damage the remaining fruits on the bunch showed remarkable decrease in their size, weight, water content and subsequently a substantial increase in their total soluble solids, these changes in fruits characteristics were not observed in cases of untouched fruits (control), morning touched and fruits treated with Vapor Gard (which prevent evaporation) immediately after mid day touching
