A greenhouse experiment was carried out to study the effect of three soil conditioners on surface crusting and seedling emergence of sugarbeet crop in clayey and silty loam soils. The layout was completely randomized blocks designed in three replicates. The conditioners bitumen (0.1, 0.25 and 0.5 %) and polyvinyle alcohol and agrofix (0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 %) were sprayed and mixed within 5 cm. of soil surface. The results showed a significant decrease in both the penetration resistance and bulk density of the surface soil with the increased concentration, except with 0.5 % level of bitumen. A significant increase in percentage of seedling emergence was also observed. Polyvinyle alcohol and agrofix gave better results. The silty loam soil showed a higher response to the conditioners compared to the clayey soil with significant differences
